Welcome to Sourdough Media
Thanks for stopping in. Take a moment to shuffle through my webfolio to see some examples of the kind of work I have been doing for the last fifteen years or so. I started off college in graphic design in 1983 - can you say wax & Xacto knives... ;-) My Junior year, I transferred and became a Music Theory & Composition major for two years, and finally
(many miles & several years later) I managed to complete a Bachelor's degree in Media Communications in 1994. I spent the vast majority of my time in the audio recording studios at the school, but stopped just shy of actually specializing in audio production. During that time I designed and helped to build a nice 24 track digital studio in the St. Louis area. I also worked as an engineer in that studio before moving to Springfield, MO. Since then, I have recorded several cassettes
(wow, those were the days) and CDs, both for myself and other clients.
I have also been involved in website design to some degree or another since 1991. I have witnessed a lot of changes in the area of web design over the years - going from sliced images in table based layouts to the welcome takeover of CSS style sheets and great strides towards a standards based internet.
I was the Art Director/Web Designer for Springfield! Magazine for nearly seven years, from 2001 to 2008. I was responsible for the production and design for the monthly publication - processing, editing and otherwise preparing hundreds of photos and layouts for print.
Prior to that I worked with Springfield Business Journal and a couple of equine related publications, The Midwest Horseman and the Ropers & Rodeo Review. During that time I also produced a lot of freelance ads for clients of the Quarter Horse Journal and a couple of less well known publications. Needless to say, I have done a LOT of print work. I have been actively working with Photoshop since version 3.0.... and also with Quark XPress and Illustrator just as long.
I have been the owner, sole designer & creative talent for Sourdough Media since the mid 1990s. It is the banner under which I pursue my artistic and creative addictions. Why
Sourdough, you ask? Well, frankly it was all about making some
bread. ;-) And I like sourdough bread - are you with me?
Most recently, I have been up to my eyeballs in AutoCAD drafting classes at Ozarks Technical Community College
(mechanical & architectural drafting). So I am learning all about drawing pictures that communicate how to go about MAKING something - parts, buildings, machines, etc.. It is great fun, and I truly appreciate the advances the drafting world has made in the last twenty years
(I took a lot of drafting classes in high school and early on in college, and let me tell ya, I DO NOT miss paper!). Around the corner, I plan to start working with Revit and Inventor, maybe SolidWorks - via OTC.... I won't be bored. ;-)
If I seem to have difficulty focusing on one media or another, it is because I am wildly interested in creating... something, anything.... as long as it's fun, challenging, and if I can use it to create something cool looking or that pleases a client, I want to do it. Audio production, songwriting & performing, 3D modeling, texturing, animating, print production, web design, video. In my book, it's ALL about communication and telling a story. The computer has become a fabulous tool to produce all these types of media and tell any kind of tale we can dream up. Maybe you'll let me help you tell yours.
So give me a shout, I'd love to help out!
(hey, that's sorta catchy!)
